Rapid Tooling
Connector Overmold
Using a common set of FDM parts with a replaceable FDM inner core it was possible to make right hand/left hand silicon mold inserts from a single tool. The silicon mold inserts were used by another FDM tool which allowed for the accurate alignment of both the left and right-hand silicon molds to form a cavity. An electrical connector was placed inside the cavity and filled with a water-proofing potting compound. After a couple of hours, the electrical connector was removed from the mold, flashing removed, and the part was finished and ready for testing.

Urethane Dust Cover
Designed and FDM prototyped a 2 part mold with draft and shrinkage as specified by the customer's specifications. After prototyping, the 2 part mold was bolted together and a dust cover cast from urethane. The mold allowed the customer to make multiple copies of the dust cover from a single rapid tooled mold. This mold eliminated the customers need for aluminum tooling. |
Jigs and Fixtures
Examples of rapid tooled FDM parts that completely eliminated the customers need for aluminum tooled jigs and fixtures manufactured by conventional means. |
Elementary School Design Project
Rapid prototyped a Doctor Sues's look alike musical instrument for school project. Instrument was painted and clear coated. |
| Many reef-dwelling marine fish have a swim bladder that regulates buoyancy and allows them live to at different depths in the water. When one of these fish is brought to the surface at a high rate of speed, their swim bladder expands at a rapid rate putting substantial pressure on their internal organs causing eversion of stomach and distended intestines. This pressure, if not relieved quickly, prevents the fish from returning to the depths from which it came. Fish that are not properly vented remain on the surface of the water and either die due to the pressure on their organs, or are eaten by predatory fish and dolphins. |
